In case anyone might have forgotten, with all the Stanley Cup betting fireworks going in the Eastern Conference right now, the Western Conference Finals began on Sunday May 16th with the Chicago Blackhawks traveling to San Jose to face the #1 seed Sharks in the Shark Tank.

The sports universe has been tightly focused on the Eastern Conference as of late as the #8 Montreal Canadiens became the only team in hockey betting history to advance to the conference finals betting action and the #7 Philadelphia Flyers try and become just the third team in NHL betting history to return from a 3-0 deficit.

However, there is some amazing hockey being played out West as well, and when these two teams face off with a trip to the Stanley Cup action on the line you will see two of the best teams in hockey going head to head and some high quality hockey being played on the ice.

The Sharks finished the NHL betting season with the finest record in the Western Conference at 51-20-11 (113) and the second best record in the league. The team won the Pacific Division and clinched the #1 seed by playing great defense (215 GA) and consistent offense.

The Blackhawks kept up with the Sharks through the NHL season, finishing just one point behind San Jose in the regular season (112 points; 52-22-8) and was one of the best teams in hockey throughout the year. Chicago scored the second most goals in the Western Conference during the NHL regular season (271) and allowed the second fewest goals (209).

As you can see from the tale of the tape, these are two very fine hockey clubs and this Western Conference Finals could very well turn out to be the best series of the 2010 NHL playoff betting action. It is the series that everyone wanted to see and now the sports fans have got what they wanted. The Sharks haven’t played in more than a week and are going to be rusty. Chicago is a very good road team (23-14-4) so expect the Hawks to come in and steal at least one of the first two games in San Jose.
